Instructors

Therapeutic Riding Instructors

The primary duty of the instructor is to work together with clients and therapists to develop and then implement the curriculum of the therapeutic riding and ground work programs.  The instructor will ensure and maintain the highest level of safety standards set forth by the organization.  The instructor is expected to communicate recommendations for identified issues or problems regarding the program to the Head Instructor, Volunteer Coordinator and Executive Director.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of Path Int. and/or EAGALA Standards​

    • PATH Intl. Therapeutic Riding Instructor certification or willingness/ability to obtain

  • Excellent oral and written communication and time management skills

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work and make decisions independently

  • Ability to understand and adhere to TEC’s risk management standards

  • Demonstrable interest in the goals and mission of Topfield Equestrian Center

  • Ability to understand and adhere to TEC’s risk management standards and ADA-compliance

  • Must be able to tolerate a variety of outdoor conditions, varying turf surfaces, air-conditioned buildings, and fluorescent lights

  • Must be able to hear and process ordinary conversation, telephone conversation, and quiet sounds with (or without) aids

  • Must be able to operate and use equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the job

  • Exercise common sense and can take initiative to accomplish tasks and make decisions

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Equine Studies

  • Nonprofit experience

  • Barn management software experience and willingness to utilize

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and maintain safety procedures

  • Maintain program documentation and electronic records

  • Evaluate program participants

  • Maintain communication with all program participants and families

  • Work with the Equine Director to cultivate, train and acclimate program horses

  • Work with therapists and complete initial assessments/evaluations of clients

  • Train volunteers and it relates to the clients; side walkers, leaders and groomers who are interacting with our clients

 

Other Duties:

  • Consult with administrative and therapeutic staff as needed

  • Help in special events as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Compensation:

  • Schedule flexible to needs of clients, programming, and weather conditions

  • Hourly salary depending on experience, potential for Full Time with benefits
