Therapists

Multiple Part-Time Therapist Positions

Topfield Equestrian would like to expand the services we offer onsite to include multiple types of therapeutic interventions. Specifically we would like to offer our clients access to mental health counseling, physical and occupational therapies, as well as speech and language therapies. Therapists should be familiar with horses and the utility of equine assisted interventions, but do not need to be equine experts themselves. A willingness to develop treatment plans with equine and therapeutic riding experts as well as experience treating a wide variety of mental, physical, and developmental disabilities is a must. 

General Requirements:

  • Maintain current licensure in the state of New York

  • Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR

  • Minimum 1 year experience in direct treatment

  • Knowledge and comfort with horses

    • Prefer PATH Intl., EAGALA, AHA, or other appropriate certification​

  • Other requirements vary by position - full job description will be offered to candidates under consideration

Basic Duties:​

  • Conduct new client evaluations

  • Develop a plan of care for each client

  • Provide direct therapy within the scope of practice of licensure

  • Report schedule changes with clients/families to Executive Director

  • Discharge clients according to developed plan of care and discharge criteria

  • Maintain accurate electronic documentation in for clients, including but not limited to evaluations, dates of service, and daily progress noted.

  • Consult with Executive Director to establish therapy goals, treatment plans, Individual Education Programs, and equipment use as appropriate.

  • Work in conjunction with a PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) or Eagala Certified Equine Specialist, unless dually certified

  • Assist with determining equipment needs and ensure all equipment meets safety standards

  • Write client reports for appropriate agencies, such as insurance companies, school districts and governmental agencies

  • Complete continuing education hours as it pertains to mental health and other certifications as needed

  • Work with other therapy professionals as needed

 

Administrative:

  • Maintain HIPAA requirements

  • Adhere to federal, state, and PATH Intl. requirements, professional ethical and best practices, and insurance requirements pertaining to therapy

  • Communicate scheduling needs, anticipated changes and client requests to Executive Director

  • Communicate equipment needs to Executive Director

  • Stay current on emerging and published research and incorporate the findings in this research into programs and services at Topfield Equestrian Center

 

Financial:

  • Complete accurate billing for all therapy clients

  • Assist with funding requests and reports related to therapy

 

Other:

  • Consult with instructors and camp staff regarding communications needs of participants

  • Consult with administrative and barn staff as needed

  • Help organize and participate in special events as requested

  • Other tasks as requested by Executive Director

 

Compensation:​

Generous hourly rate; flexible hours, potential for riding if desired; as program grows there may be potential for benefits, etc.
