Full-Time Dual-Focus Position
Position Summary: This position serves as the chief manager of all TEC equines, responsible for equine and program assessment. Serves as intermediary between the therapeutic/instructional staff and the barn staff. Will recruit, train and acclimate all program horses.

PATH Intl certification or willingness to obtain

Ability to communicate with, supervise and empower staff and volunteers to be effective in their roles

Self-directed and process-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

Ability to understand and adhere to TEC’s risk management standards and ADA-compliance

Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds for up to 10 feet and sustain aerobic activity for 30 consecutive minutes.

Must be able to work in a variety of positions, including but not limited to: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting
-
Must be able to tolerate a variety of outdoor conditions, varying turf surfaces, air-conditioned buildings, and fluorescent lights.

Must be able to hear and process ordinary conversation, telephone conversation, and quiet sounds with or without aid.

Must be able to operate and use equipment necessary to perform essential functions of the job.

Exercise common sense and can take initiative to accomplish tasks and make decisions
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Bachelor's degree in Equine Studies or related degree
-
Veterinary technician or related degree or equivalent experience
-
Nonprofit experience
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Develop and maintain program tack and equipment and supplies.
-
Along with instructors/therapists, evaluate, assess, and train volunteers for side walking and leading
-
Develop and maintain schooling program for horses and appropriate staff
-
Make final decision as to whether a horse is suitable for program
-
Match riders with appropriate equines, equipment, and instructional setting
-
Record and arrange horse usage/schooling/planning using appropriate software/electronic record keeping
-
Ensure that all horses are exercised appropriately
-
Provide and solicit ongoing feedback to both the instructional/therapeutic team and the barn staff
-
Assist with training and acclimating equines to programs
-
Overseeing & communicating regularly with Barn Manager
Other Duties:
-
Responsible for feeding and seeking medical care for equines/animals on the property as necessary
-
Training new barn employees and volunteers
-
Provide support and education to volunteers/assistants on an as needed basis
-
Maintaining horse budget, paying invoices
-
Communicating barn/ property maintenance needs to Groundskeeper
-
Running errands and adhering to special requests as needed
-
Consult with administrative and therapeutic staff as needed
-
Help in special events as needed
-
Other duties as assigned
Compensation:
-
Schedule: generally M-F, but flexible to needs of property, programming, equines, and weather conditions (35 hours total)

Salary depending on experience
